UQ tooth fairies brighten hospitalised children

UQ tooth fairies have brightened smiles at the Mater Children's Hospital. Fourth year dental students Doo Li Lee, Lauren Taljaard and Anna Yi, delivered their oral health message over the hospital radio broadcast and visited the children’s wards, donning fairy wings and toothbrushes to add some ‘magic’ to the message.

Teamwork tackles autism

Every year the University of Queensland Health Sciences faculty hosts Teamwork in Action (TIA), designed to introduce first year health science students to interdisciplinary communication and teamwork; the skills necessary for ideal patient outcomes in the real world. The first years are divided into teams, made up of a range of different health fields including medicine, dentistry, occupational therapy and speech therapy, with the goal to collaborate and contribute to a community organisation. As a fourth year dentistry student, Ellen Rogers mentored a team, helping to guide the team towards their goal of raising awareness for Autism.
