Prizes and Financial Awards - Rules

Explanation of relevant prize rules:

(a) Recommending authority 

 Paragraph (a) of the rules relating to a prize indicates the authority which recommends to Senate the award of the prize.

(b) Eligibility

 Paragraph (b) indicates who may be considered for the prize.

(c) Basis for award

Paragraph (c) indicates the basis for award of the prize. The prize is awarded to the person who, in the opinion of the recommending authority, fulfils the requirements set out in that paragraph.

(d) Nature of prize

 Paragraph (d) indicates the nature of the prize.

(e) Paragraph

Paragraph (e) indicates any other relevant provisions.

Equal merit

If, in the opinion of the recommending authority, there are 2 or more candidates of substantially equal merit, a prize may be shared equally among them.

No candidate of sufficient merit

Each prize shall be awarded annually except in a year in which the recommending authority determines that there is no candidate of sufficient merit to justify its award.

(c) Highest mark in first attempt in Introduction to Clinical Practice I and II (ORAL1030 and ORAL1060)
(d) $250
(e) The prize shall not be awarded unless the nominated recipient enrols for all second year courses

Dentistry III The Australian Society of Endodontology Prize

(a) Head, School of Dentistry

(c) Highest mark in first attempt in the Endodontics component of Dental Practice II (DENT3022)
(d) $100 and one year's membership in the Australian Society of Endodontology following BDSc graduation

 

Dentistry III The David Dunlop Memorial Bursary

1. The Bursary is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Dentistry
2. The Bursary is open to 3rd Year BDSc students
3. The Bursary is awarded to the student achieving the highest mark on first attempt in the Orthodontics component of Dentistry for Children I (DENT3042).
4. The value of the Bursary is 80% of the income of the fund for the year.

 

Dentistry III The Dental Study Club Prize

(a) Head, School of Dentistry
(b) First time, Year 3 BDSc students
(c) Highest total marks in compulsory courses
(d) Some useful or decorative item selected by the recipient and suitably inscribed

 

Dentistry IV The George Christensen Memorial Prize

(a) Head, School of Dentistry
(b) Year 4 BDSc students
(c) Highest mark in Oral Surgical Sciences II  (DENT4072)
(d) A decorative and useful token bearing a suitable inscription as selected by the recipient and such cash the Bursar certifies as being available from the income of the fund, in addition to the cost of the token.

 

Dentistry IV The Australian Society of Periodontology Prize

(a) Head, School of Dentistry
(b) Year 4 BDSc students
(c) Highest aggregate marks in first attempt in the Periodontics components of Dental Practice II (DENT3022) and Oral Rehabilitation III (DENT4032)
(d) Medallion suitably inscribed and one year's membership to the Australian Society of Periodontology following BDSc graduation

(c) Highest two GPAs for level 2, 3 and 4 compulsory courses
(d) Open credit accounts with Henry Schein/Halas, each to the value of $500
(e) The prize will not be awarded unless the nominated recipient completes all final year courses on first attempt. The prizes are not transferable or redeemable in cash.
